Henan is a major ceramic production base in northern China. 90% of ceramic tile plants have resumed production after the Lantern Festival. Sales has performed well on the whole in Henan since the lunar New Year. Some ceramic companies expressed that sales were better than the same period in last year; porcelain wall tile sales were prominent, whilst sales of polished tiles and full polished glazed tiles were stable. However, tile prices in this area has gone up slightly after Spring Festival. Why?

More Input in Environmental Protection Facility

In 2014, several tile companies in Henan were imposed a fine and forced to shut down for being against the environmental protection standard. On March 11 this year, Henan issued official document, targeting at completing desulfurization of at least 5 ceramic kilns with an efficiency of over 85%, and exhaust emission conforming to the requirement of Emission Standard of Pollutants for Ceramics Industry (GB25464-2010).

Under this premise, ceramic companies in Henan are making great efforts to enlarge input in environmental protection. One company is said to have invested over 10 Million RMB in environmental protection facilities.

Due to the strong implementation of environmental protection policy, tile production in Faku (Liaoning Province) and Linyi (Shandong) were delayed after the long vacation, which made tile prices in Henan slightly rise with the increasing market demand.

Product Upgrade

Since 2014, quite a few tile companies in Henan have transformed their production lines or develop new products to upgrade. Some companies have turned to produce vitrified tiles, sugar glazed tiles, interior wall tiles with sinking glaze effect. Vitrified marble tiles, polished marble tiles are new products produced by companies which are striving to upgrade.

Investment in product upgrade is another cause of the rising tile prices, which has been the first increase since the second half of 2014.
